... after 6.5 years of knowing Susa...
... after roughly 4.5 years of dating Susa
... and just about 2 years after first proposing to Susa
... (the first of almost 90 proposals, although most might have been
classified as "spam")

Forrest did, in fact, convince the stubborn lass to say "yes"
(although it did almost require swimming a raging river... but she
relented on this point, on account of safety concerns).

In short, they are now officially engaged to be married (presumably
some time in the next 6.5 years).

Which is even more shocking, given that he gave her a pretty purple
jewelry box containing a green twist-tie ring.
